Jefferson Airplane’s actual album “Volunteers” was released in 1969, just two years after their psychedelic hippie rock monument “Surrealistic Pillow”. As a politically charged album, “Volunteers” deals primarily with the injustice of the Vietnam War. The lyrics caused controversy, but technically the album surpassed them all. “Volunteers” was one of the first albums to be recorded on a state-of-the-art 16-track machine, as the picture on the back cover confirms. The album features Stephen Still and David Crosby as musical collaborators, making it one of the best albums in the Jefferson Airplane catalog.
